So, long story short, the kidney transplant team have decided to use my kidney.
But let me be clear, (contain your excitement) this just means that they've decided
to allow me to go through ALL of the steps in the living donor evaluation....only after successfully passing ALL of them we can definitively say I am giving Ben a kidney.
So far, i've been cleared as an ideal match..not a perfect one though...which is highly unlikely in most cases.. Usually someone related to the recipient is the best choice. But in this case because of predisposed high blood pressure, they chose to go outside the family..
We've since learned, the best thing is to get a kidney from a living donor rather than a deceased person. An ideal matched kidney from a NON-RELATIVE that has NOT gone throught the death/dying process - is a million times better than a PERFECT matched kidney from a dead person or a person that has blood related issues.
After a brief sigh of relief, I was then told to collect my urine for 24 hours to determine that my kidney was functioning normally...Lets just say, Urine collection is meant for boys not girls..if you get my drift.
My urine was ALL GOOD.
Then, a bunch of other test were conducted...I passed them all too.
Next week monday I have what i hope to be two of the last three test. An EKG to be sure my heart and body can live with only one kidney and a CAT SCAN to be sure my kidney is in perfect shape, If it will work in Ben's body due to his size and finally to map out the surgery route..i.e: which kidney to use and what route to enter and remove the kidney.
I'll let you know how it turns out..

honey, honey, honey - bless both of you. I am so happy to hear your passing the test(s) but also worried since both of you have to contend with surgery in the future. I recogize that for you its two fold, operation and having the ability to help your husband. I am sure Ben has his very own personal two, three fold feelings also. Frankly, these surgeries are normal I have no worries (I am lying). Many people are pulling for the both of you. Please try (as best you can) to keep your blog updated so I can view it and see what's happening. A friend of mind gave her father her kidney (a few years back)and both are doing well. So I am sending energy and hopes of a great surgery and faster recovery for you both. Like Sarah, your a good wife!
Love and hugs

Its obvious that Jehovah is blessing this whole situation. No doubt he will see this thing through until both of you are chillin on a beach somewhere thinking back about this bad dream.
Constant prayers,
Your brother Brian
I feel like you two are such a good example for married couples. Its easy to see you both are exercising the fruitage's of the Spirit in your relationship (Galatians 5:22,23). Keep setting this fine example in good times and in bad. May Jehovah bless you :) I look forward to you both having a speedy recovery after the surgery and us spending time together!
Hello Ben & Michelle,
I really appreciate you sending me an email with this link because otherwise I would've had NO idea. I'm slowly but surely picking my bottom lip up off the floor. You hear about these things happening to people around you, people with whom you have no emotional connection to,and naturally, your heart goes out to them. Now, here it is, 2 people that I know personally, who's wedding I attended and have been cheering for ever since, going through something like this, and it saddens me, but at the same time warms my heart because this is a story of true love, devotion, and loyalty. You have immediately become a part of my daily prayers. Never stop relying on Jehovah to bring you through and remember, all of this is temporary. Isn't it a blessing to have a hope of life without sickness? Wishing you both a speedy recovery.
Love,
Lesley

Hi Guys,
Thanks for sharing your story with all of us. Now, for those of us who know we can check in right here for updates.
Its kind of cool that in the midst of the trial that the two of you will become "one" in another way.
I mean, how cool is it to have a physical part of your loved one living inside of you. It may not be what you want to think of as your maneuvering that cup for an adequate sample amount tho'.
However, you are constantly in my prayers and I'll see you both soon!
Wow, I'm sitting here in absolute shock. I just had no idea. I'm thankful for technology like this though which allows me to see what's going on with my friends back home. Please continue to keep us informed as to Ben's progress, as you find time to do so obviously. Michelle, I will keep you both in my prayers that everything goes well with both of your surgeries and that Jehovah continue to supply you both with the "power beyond what is normal". Hoping that you both will be in good health soon!
Love
